Over 100 members aged from 30-80 with a varied repertoire. New members welcome. Arun Choral Society Founded in 1912, Arun Choral Society now has over 100 members. They meet on Monday evenings in Arundel and new members (especially tenors!) will be given a warm welcome. Membership secretary is Clare Gregory, tel: 01903 725816. Billingshurst Choral Society Founded in 1986 this is an active amateur choir of around 100. The choir performs four main concerts a year in Billingshurst, Chichester and Arundel, under Musical Director George Jones. New members are always welcome! Brighton Chamber Choir Formed in 1995, Brighton Chamber Choir performs unaccompanied, with organ and with chamber orchestra. The choir supports Brighton Festival Fringe each May. Conducted by Jane Money. Brighton Consort Tallis Scholar Deborah Roberts directs this leading chamber choir which specialises in early music. Brighton Festival Chorus Founded by Laszlo Heltay, now conducted by James Morgan and with an active youth choir. Still considered to be the best large choir in the area and with a busy programme of concerts, tours and recordings. Don't let the website put you off, their singing is very fine. Brighton Orpheus Choir Another big chorus, established in 1942. Patricia Harding conducted the choir for 51 years, a role now taken by Stella Hull. Rehaearsals take place Wednesday evenings at Dorothy Stringer School. Brighton Singers A choir of about 30 singers under the direction of Andy Sherwood. The Singers aim for a high standard of choral singing to perform a mixture of standard choral works and unjustly neglected repertoire. They rehearse at the University of Sussex - no subs payable if you're a student! Brighton Welsh Male Voice Choir There'll be a welcome in the hillsides - you don't need to speak Welsh to join the BWMVC. A very jolly website, chaotic but fun. Rehearsing in Hove on Monday evening, new members welcome. Let's hear it for the boys! Brighton & Hove Yiddish Choir Polina Shepherd's choir sings Jewish folk songs, Niggunim (the age old Jewish "songs without words") and original compositions, with improvisation and special attention to folk elements in singing. Teaching - mainly by ear. The Choir is a secular community, but the historic context of the music is discussed. New members welcome. Burgess Hill Choral Society Founded in 1947, Burgess Hill Choral Society celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2007. Around 70 - 80 members, rehearsals on Mondays and concerts twice a year in December & April. Conducted by Michael Stefan Wood. New members welcome. Cantatrice Ladies Choir Formed in 2004, this Steyning-based choir is directed by Zoe Peate and has performed in Steyning, Horsham and at Chichester Festival Theatre. New members welcome, no sight reading skills necessary. Chanctonbury Chorus Steyning-based choir conducted by Siobhan Denning. Concordia Singers A mixed choir of 40+ singers performing in and around Crawley and Horsham. The choir usually gives three main concerts a year, has a varied repertoire and prides itself on having a welcoming atmosphere. Eastbourne Choral Society Conducted by John Hancorn and founded in 1992 by Elizabeth Muir Lewis (now Life President). Approximately 50 members, new singers always welcome, especially men! Rehearsals are on Tuesdays 7.30-9.30pm. East Sussex Bach Choir A choir of 50 or so singing regularly in Lewes and Alfriston. Conducted by John Hancorn. Esterhazy Chamber Choir Lewes-based choir conducted by David Thomas. The Fletching Singers A choir of about 45 regular singers, established over 20 years and now conducted by Nick Milner-Gulland. They rehearse on Tuesday evenings and new members are welcome. Background and contacts details on their website. Hailsham Choral Society Founded in the early 1930s, Hailsham Choral Society is a choir of between 50 and 60 singers, performing three or four main concerts during the year. Rehearsals on Thursday evenings in Hailsham Community Hall - new members are welcome. Heathfield Choral Society Formed in 1945, the Heathfield Choral Society has a membership of around 60 singers, drawn from Heathfield and other towns and villages in the Wealden area of East Sussex. The Lewes Singers Small group of experienced singers giving occasional concerts in Lewes and singing cathedral services around the country. New Sussex Singers A group of up to eighteen singers offering a wide-ranging repertoire from opera to oratorio and from early music to contemporary show-stoppers. Under Music Director John Baker the group performs widely throughout Sussex and beyond. Noel Singers A friendly choir of twenty members, singing at weddings and providing after-dinner entertainment, and sometimes augment a church choir on special occasions. Repertoire is wide-ranging, both secular and sacred and in many different styles. Based Burgess Hill. Phoenix Choir Eastbourne Conducted by John Langridge, Phoenix Choir was formed in 2002, when two Eastbourne choirs amalgamated (Cantamus & The Heritage Singers). Performs 2+ concerts a year, and welcomes new members. Musical workshops as from June 2004. Pro Musica Chamber Choir Rottingdean-based choir directed jointly by Ray Maulkin and Kathryn Sargent, consisting of around 40 experienced singers from across Sussex. The Rainbow Chorus Brighton and Hove's Lesbian and Gay Community Choir, offering a supportive environment for LGBT members in the area to sing together, and so develop their community spirit and awareness, skills and confidence. New members welcome. The Sandgate Singers A four-part choir giving regular concerts in Storrington, and also West Chiltington, Pulborough, and Billingshurst. Performs three concerts a year locally. The choir has about 75 members and prospective new members are warmly welcomed. Sussex Chorus Formerly known as the Ditchling Choral Society, this large choir has gone from strength to strength under Neil Jenkins' direction. Sussex Phil Chamber Choir Now conducted by James Lloyd Thomas, this is a small-ish choir with a reputation for welcoming new members (no audition necessary). Regular concerts in Brighton throughout the year. Sussex Voiceworks Previously known as Portslade Community College Choir. Vivace! is a choir of 25 mixed voices based in Ditchling, East Sussex. The choir's chief aim is to raise money for charitable causes. Its concert programmes feature an eclectic mix of choral and instrumental music from Bach to Bryan Adams, catering for all tastes. The Weald Choir of Crawley Based in Crawley, The Weald Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings to perform four concerts each season. Founded in 1970, current music director is Adrian Bawtree. West Sussex Philharmonic Choir Horsham-based choir of about 100 singers directed by Stephen Hope. Worthing Philharmonic Choir Under the direction of Donovan Brown, the choir is now in its 70th season. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings.
